PARIS 1

ZANGO BAR – Nice atmosphere and tons of wanderlust

International Cuisine

15 rue du Cygne 75001 Paris. Opens Monday to Sunday from 12pm to 1am

In A Nutshell:

Le Zango, is a bar- restaurant with a travel atmosphere. Actually a Zango is a tree called “the travelers’ tree”. Their cuisine is exotic, with a mix of dishes and tapas from different countries. This is also the perfect place to meet for some drinks and talk about travels: their cozy corner with lots of maps and guidebooks can only inspire their customers!

My Favorite Dish:

All the mains have names of different explorers. My favorite one is Marco Polo: teriyaki chicken, potatoes, humus, goat briks and green salad. When I am less hungry I enjoy their ZaTaZés (ZAkouskis – TApas – meZÉS), small bites which are a great way to taste different countries’ cuisines.

LA CRÊTE – Excellent value for money

International Cuisine

85 Rue Mouffetard, 75005 Paris.  Lunch everyday from 12pm to 2.30pm. Dinner everyday from 6pm to 10.30pm

In A Nutshell:

The best Greek restaurant in Paris in my opinion. Excellent good value for money with very good and generous dishes. Always a very warm welcome.

80 PHO MONGE – My favorite pho bho in Paris

80 rue Monge, 75005 Paris. Lunch Monday to Saturday from 12pm to 2pm; Dinner Monday to Saturday from 7pm to 10pm

In A Nutshell:

This canteen forms part of a non profit French – Vietnamese organization. Located in the heart of Latin Quarter, it is also known as Ho Chi Minh because it is said the former President of Vietnam used to eat there during his student days in Paris. When I “discovered” this place it was just that, a canteen. That means nothing fancy, a cheap place for students and people on a budget to eat VERY GOOD Vietnamese food at a very cheap price. But the atmosphere was pretty cool ! Recently the owners changed the decoration to something more fancy, I guess to attract also other kind of guests. Anyway this is a place where I go again and again because everything is very good.

AU PIED DE FOUET – A very good deal

In A Nutshell:

Excellent traditional French cuisine at a very good price. The restaurant is located in historic Paris neighborhood Saint Germain des Près. It is a very small restaurant (the tables are so close that you are almost eating with your neighbors) and the owners are VERY KIND. Because I go quite often they know me already and last time they offered me a kir, sweet! The only down: it seems to be on some guidebooks so there are always some tourists.

My Favorite Dish:

I am vegetarian and there is always something on the menu for me. Desserts are always very good.

L’APATAM – Sublime Cuisine

This is a table d’hôte which offers a set menu (“menu du jour) with Starter + Main + Dessert in a vintage and colorful atmosphere. The cuisine is creative, colorful and the presentation is always fantastic.

My Favorite Dish:

Always today’s menu, L’Apatam’s cuisine is sublime!

Les Arlots – Neighborhood Bistro

In A Nutshell:

This Parisian restaurant with an old bistro atmosphere proposes simple dishes for a very reasonable price. This is the kind of place where you go when you want to eat well. If you are a wine lover you will enjoy their good selection of wines, also for a good price.

My Favorite Dish:

The entrecot but, of course, there are many other options.

PARIS BREIZH – The best crêpes (and galettes) in Paris

In A Nutshell:

Most blogs and journals have voted Paris Breizh as the best crêperie in Paris and it won’t be me who says the opposite! It does not have the “traditional atmosphere” that we would look for a crêperie but its food is great, the spaces are big (which is rare in Paris!) and the staff is very kind.

My Favorite Dish:

I always go for the classics so my favorite pick is la galette with egg + jam or egg + emmental. No doubt for the dessert: the crêpe sucre-citron has my name on it!

La REcyclerie – Local Food in an old train station atmosphere

83 boulevard Ornano, 75018 Paris. Opens Monday to Thursday 8am to 12am, Friday 8am to 2am, Saturday 12pm to 2am and Sunday 11am  to 2am

In A Nutshell:

Located inside the old train station of Ornano la REcyclerie is a kind of canteen /restaurant but it is also a urban farm, a cultural space and a “do it yourself” reparation workshop. La REcyclerie proposes a “responsible cuisine”: fresh, quality products (coming often from their urban farm), less meat and always home made dishes. On weekends la REcyclerie cooks a very cool brunch: classic or vegetarian.

My Favorite Dish:

I was more than happy with their classic brunch: salmon, sausages, bacon, eggs, smashed potatoes, beans and cheese. The combo includes a drink and a little dessert.
