Why we love Paris (and always will)

There are endless reasons why people choose to visit Paris again and again. As locals, we are lucky to enjoy the City of Light all the year round, through its different seasons, events and also different moods. We wanted to share with YOU why we love Paris so much, completing the list with the finalist shots of the November Photo Contest.

reasons love paris

We hope you will enjoy the list (and the pics!) as much as we enjoyed writing it and that it will make you want to visit the City of Light soon. Because Paris is always a good idea ; -)

This post is dedicated to N, thanks for your courage and effort to become a Parisian !

The Seine

The River Seine winds its way through the heart of Paris, being the origin of the city and its development uniquely tied to the river. Walking along Seine’s banks on a sunny day is a wonder and you will never be bored: majestic historical buildings reflected on its waters, the typical Parisian “mansards”, 37 beautiful bridges, each one with a unique style . . . but also the iconic Bouquinistes’ book stalls, improvised picnics while enjoying great views and even a crazy beach area in summer time! Finally, at sunset take a boat cruise to enjoy the nocturnal revival of the City’s monuments, magical atmosphere guaranteed.

Magnificent Views

There are several points offering breathtaking panoramic views of Paris. Enjoy the view from some of the most iconic places in Paris like Tour Montparnasse, Notre Dame or Arche de Triomphe. Luxury department store Printemps offers also a sensational view from its rooftop for free.

Luxury Hotels

Probably we will never enjoy any of these 5-star luxury hotels but we have to admit that they give a touch of elegance to the City of Light. Hôtel Ritz Paris, Le Bristol Paris, Le Four Seasons Hôtel George V . . . only the names make us dream, at least until we check the price! In any case, have a look at their grandiose facades (and everything the security staff allows you to see), some hotels like Shangri-La Hôtel are listed as historical monuments.

So Much Art and History

If you are a culture lover Paris is the city for you. The city counts 153 museums to explore, with museums like Musée d’Orsay or the Louvre worldwide known. For a local experience visit the Musée Carnevalet which offers a fascinating glimpse into the history of the City of Light. Or explore the entrails of the city at the Sewer Museum. If your budget is tight and don’t want to spend much on sights, Paris offers a bunch of interesting museums to visit always for free.

Out of the city without leaving the city

For those who need a break from the city bustle, there is always a park nearby to get a breath of fresh air. The most famous gardens are Luxembourg Gardens and Tuilleries Gardens while other more local green spaces like Parc des Buttes Chaumont or the Promenade Plantée are waiting to be discovered.

The Café Culture

Parisian cafés were the meeting place of the French Enlightenment in the XVIIth century. They were the stage of passionately engaging intellectual chats some years later. Today sitting and sipping in a Paris café-terrasse is among the finest common pleasures of the City of Light and the perfect place to watch as the city goes by.

The sparkling Eiffel Tower

The Eiffel Tower is the symbol of Paris and all France. Despite all the controversy during its construction and inauguration (1887 -89) today we cannot imagine a visit to Paris without paying our respects (and take some selfies) to the Dame de Fer. Since 1985 Paris’ icon is adorned with lights that sparkle for 5 minutes every hour on the hour. The sparkling has a reach of 80 kilometres, being this the signal for the nocturnal revival of monuments in Paris.

Paris will always hold a special place in my heart because my husband (of ten years) and I got engaged on the Eiffel Tower. Even if that wasn’t the case, we think it is just as romantic and culturally exciting as everyone said. Thanks for getting me excited to get back there!

We visited Paris for the first time last May and I have to admit, my husband and I weren’t super excited. We’re not city people and if friends hadn’t asked us to meet them there, I’m not sure we would have ever visited, even though we’re living in Europe! Not only did I absolutely LOVE it, but my husband even enjoyed it. We packed in as much as we could in just 3 days, but it wasn’t nearly enough time. It just left us wanting to see more of your beguiling City of Light.

To me, Paris is a city that you do either love or hate. I have to admit I’m on the other side of the fence about the French capital… but I truly wish I weren’t. Particularly when I read articles like this!

You have beautiful photography 🙂 I’m going to be a bit blasphemous and admit that Paris didn’t woo me in the way it does many others – I enjoyed my time there, though I think the city was so hyped up before hand that it was impossible for it to live up to the expectations I had created in my head. But I did enjoy the cafe culture and the sparkling Eiffel Tower … we had the pleasure of ice skating on the Eiffel Tower during winter one year – the views were incredible 🙂

I don’t want to just go to France, I want to live there. Ever since I watched Before Sunset, I have been in love with Paris. I even imagine myself living in an apartment pretty much like the one where Delpy’s character was residing. Also, I want to learn another language and I have already set my sights on learning French. I hope I can do this in the near future. I would definitely check out the spots that you mentioned here.
