Clubbing in Paris

Clubbing in Paris

Paris has a handful of legit clubs and bars for dancing and partying the night away. Here’s the list of our favorite places to go clubbing in Paris:

» Les Bains, in Paris 3: this place was Paris’ answer to NYC’s Studio 54 and welcomed everyone from David and Bowie to Princess Grace on its dancefloor, and in its (adjacent) swimming pool.

» L’Heritage, in Paris 8: a night at this venue, located just a few minutes away from Champs-Élysėes, promises a unique clubbing experience at once sophisticated and classy.

» Le Baron, in Paris 8: this tiny (there is limited room inside), and exclusive club hosts both some of the city’s best DJs as well as featuring live music acts and stars like Bjork and Sofia Coppola have frequented this hot spot.

» Le Carmen, in Paris 9: set in a former hôtel particulier, which once housed the apartment of French composer Bizet (and, according to rumor, a high-end ‘maison close’), this trendy all-night bar is worth visiting for the exquisite surroundings alone.

» Le Bus Palladium, in Paris 9: located in the heart of Pigalle, it stands apart from other clubs in the city as a resolute rock venue: DJ sets, live music, and improvisations of all kinds. There are occasional forays into hip-hop and electro on the ground floor.

» La Java, in Paris 10: La Java is a historic place dedicated to alternative, underground and emerging new music talent. Its eclectic programming offers the opportunity to discover unique musical talent before they go live to the world. La Java also hosts LGBT evenings regularly that are incredibly popular.

» Wanderlust, in Paris 13: le Wanderlust has been a favorite on the nightlife scene since it opened in 2012. The club has a 1,600 square-meter terrace where you can dance under the stars when the weather is good in summer and a 386 square-meter space with a club area and restaurant.

» La Machine du Moulin Rouge, in Paris 18: the former boiler room of the iconic cabaret has been transformed into, an underground dance floor, which links with Le Centre one floor up, a club night and concert space accommodating up to 1,000 revelers

» La Bellevilloise, in Paris 20: enjoy a trendy indie clubbing experience, with two levels, a terrace, and sofas to snuggle into with friends.

Outdoor Activities in Paris in New Years Eve 2020

New Years Eve in Paris

Will Paris hold again firework shows for December 31st?

Many visitors are often disappointed when they wait around the Eiffel Tower or Trocadéro for fireworks that never come.  The last time the Eiffel Tower held fireworks for New Years dates back to the special exception that was allowed for 2000 millennium celebrations.

However, last year (2018 – 2019) the surprise arrived after the countdown: projections on the Arc de Triomphe, visible from the Place de l’Etoile and Avenue des Champs-Élysées were followed by colorful FIREWORKS!!

The city’s official program for New Year in Paris 2019 -2020 is not released yet but we hope to kick off the new year with fireworks again.

Champs Elysées New Years Eve Celebrations 2020

The City of Paris organizes an event on the Champs-Elysées to ring out the year 2020: a show comprising 3D images projected on to the Arc de Triomphe.

The Champs Elysées New Years Eve celebrations usually at 11:00 pm but we recommend heading to the place in advance. For sure, it will be a very crowded event but if you want to live a New Year celebration in Paris like a local, Champs Elysées is one of the places to go.

Champs de Mars – Eiffel Tower New Years Eve Paris 2020

Despite the absence of an official celebration and fireworks around the Iron Lady, Champs de Mars is always a gathering point for people who want to spend the New Year’s Eve outside, waiting to shout “Bonne Année!” (=Happy New Year) to friends and family.

Montmartre Neighborhood Paris NYE 2020

The square just in front Sacré Coeur, in Montmartre neighborhood, is another popular place to bid farewell to the current year. In addition, if the weather is good, there is the plus of spectacular views of the Paris skyline.

Like Champs Elysées or Eiffel Tower New Years Eve, this is another place that sees the crowds but in Montmartre and nearby Pigalle, there are plenty of bars, cabarets, and clubs where you can get lost afterward.

Disneyland Paris New Years Eve 2020

Disneyland Paris

Get ready for the most magical party of all! On 31st December 2019, Disneyland Paris will be bedazzled by exciting New Year’s Eve delights, with all the attractions open until just after midnight! Meet Mickey, Minnie, Cinderella, Donald, and the rest of the Disney gang and soak up the enchanting atmosphere of these festive days in Disneyland Paris.
It may only be for one night, but the Disneyland Paris New Year’s Eve Party will give you magical memories that’ll last forever and ever.

How to Get Around Paris during NYE

The Parisian Metro

Public Transportation (Parisian Metro and Regional Trains)

There are so many things to do in Paris on New Years Eve that probably you will want to try more than one. If you need to move around Paris, public transportation is always a good choice, also during Paris NYE.

Public transportation in Paris and Ile de France will be free during the night of 31st December until 1st January. In addition, you don’t need to worry about Paris Metro hours during New Year’s celebrations: Metro lines 1, 2, 4, 6, 9 and 14 plus all the RER lines A, B and C will work non-stop during all New Years Eve in Paris!

It may happen that some metro stations are closed due to public manifestations or celebrations on the surface (e.g. around Champs Elysées). You can check all this information (closed stations, issues in certain lines) on the screens located inside the metro station, before passing the security control, or on the Metro website.

Private Transportation during New Years in Paris 2019 – 2020

If your Paris holiday is finishing on 1st January and you need to head to the airport or any railway station early in the morning, we recommend using private transportation.

Taxis in Paris are scarce and they may raise their fees for special days like New Years Eve. Free, non-stop Metro and RER service may sound wonderful but perhaps you want to avoid the crowds and (let’s face it) the drunks for your last journey to the train station or airport, with all your luggage.

Same for arrivals to Paris in the afternoon-evening of December 31st. You want to be sure to have the time of a quick shower before the party starts!

We like and we recommend  Welcome ‘s transfer services, with good cars and the best English speaking drivers in Paris. Their flight monitoring means their drivers are always on time. You may have a terrible hangover but the hotel pick-up service and their patient drivers will ensure that, as long as you have your passport with you, you will take your train or flight 😉

French New Year’s Eve Traditions

There aren’t too many traditions specific to New Year’s Eve in France apart from kissing under the mistletoe (le gui), counting down to midnight and celebrate the arrival of the New Year with champagne and the best French wines.

New Year’s Eve is most often spent with friends and there may be dancing involved. At the stroke of midnight, people kiss one another on the cheek and some may also throw des cotillons (confetti and streamers), blow into un serpentin (a streamer attached to a whistle), and generally make a lot of noise.

Of course, French people also like to dance and you will find many dancing options in Paris and France for that night.

How to wish Happy New Year in Paris?

» Bonne Année (Happy New Year)

» Bonne Année, Meilleurs Voeux (Happy New Year and best wishes)

It is possible to use these New Year’s greetings until the end of January.

We hope that you found some inspiration to make the most of New Years Eve in Paris. Enjoy the city’s vibrant atmosphere during that special night and start the New Year in style!
