2024 Paris Olympics Dates

The 33rd Summer Olympic Games will be held in the Summer of 2024, from Friday 26 July to Sunday 11 August 2024.

Following the Olympic Games tradition, the official Opening Ceremony will take place on 26 July 2024, while the closing events will run on 11 August 2024. Cheers to 19 days of incredible competitions!

However, the celebrations will start much earlier, on 8 May 2024, with the arrival of the Olympic Torch in Marseille. From 9 May to 26 July, the Olympic Torch Relay will cover France and its Overseas Territories, uniting the country (and, by extension, the world) as a symbol of endurance and harmony.

1. By Plane

Three airports serve Paris, and depending on the airlines you are flying with, you will land at one airport or another. Paris Charles de Gaulle (CDG) is Paris’ biggest airport and, alongside Orly Airport (ORY), handles international and European domestic flights. The smaller Beauvais Airport (BVA), located 85 km northwest of the city, offers flights from low-budget European airlines, such as Ryanair.

2. By Train

If you are traveling to Paris from another European country, you can also arrive by train. Depending on where your departure is, you will arrive at one of the six mainline stations serving the city.

Traveling from the UK, Belgium, Germany, and the Netherlands to Paris, you will arrive at Gare du Nord.
Arriving from Catalonia or Spain, you might get off at Gare Montparnasse or Gare d’Austerlitz, depending on your city of departure.
Switzerland and Italy are served by Gare de Lyon, while Portugal is served by Gare d’Austerlitz.

2024 Summer Olympics Opening Ceremony

The 2024 Summer Olympics will have a special opening ceremony as it will take place not inside the stadium but along the Seine River. This is groundbreaking as it is the first time in history that the event opening the competition is held in the city.

The athletes’ parade will be quite a spectacle as each national delegation will cruise the Seine on different boats. The parade will be 6 km long, and it will come to an end in front of the Trocadéro, where the final shows of the games will also take place.

Another “first” of this opening ceremony is that spectators who want to access the upper quays won’t need to pay the admission fee. However, those wishing to be in the lower quays will need to purchase an entrance ticket.

Being located in the city rather than in the Olympic stadium will allow at least 600,000 spectators to attend the festivities, so ten times more than ever other time in history!

Place de la Concorde is one of Paris’ major public squares, and it is located in the 8th Arrondissement. One of the Royal Squares in Paris, Place de la Concorde is perfect for discovering Paris’ top attractions, starting from the Egyptian Obelisk and the Champs-Elysées. Other spots of interest in the area are the Tuileries Garden, the Musée de l’Orangerie, and the Galerie Nationale du Jeu de Paume.

The sports competitions that will be held in Concorde are 3×3 basketball, breaking, BMX freestyle, and skateboarding, while in Grand Palais, you will assist in fencing and taekwondo. Lastly, the Alexandre iii Bridge will be the arena for marathon swimming, triathlon, and road cycling.

3. Paris 15

This isn’t a tourist district as it is mainly residential and hasn’t special landmarks or unmissable buildings. Perfect for families, the 15th arrondissement is located on the left bank of the Seine, and it is the ideal place to stay for those who want to check out the competitions in the Arena Paris Sud 1 (volleyball), Arena Paris Sud 4 (table tennis), and Arena Paris Sud 6 (weight lifting, handball).

4. Eiffel Tower District, Paris 7 and 16

Staying in the district where the iconic Eiffel Tower is located is a fabulous choice! Paris’ 7th arrondissement has a lot of amazing sights and attractions within walking distance. Besides the Eiffel Tower, this district hosts the Orsay Museum.

At the foot of the Eiffel Tower will take place beach volleyball. The Champ-de-Mars will host the judo and wrestling games, while Pont d’Iéna spectators will attend triathlon, road cycling, marathon, and open-water swimming. Head to Les Invalides monument to assist at the archery competition.

2. Trocadéro & Parc de la Villette

Trocadéro (Paris 7) and Parc de la Villette (Paris 19) will be the two key sites to celebrate the Summer Olympics 2024 in Paris. These sites will be controlled, but access will be easy.

Trocadéro’s Champions Park will be the place to celebrate the athletes who got a medal during the previous day. The athletes will be there to celebrate with you and share their stories and experiences. Also, a giant screen will broadcast the grand finals of the day, and artistic and cultural performances will complete the program.

La Grande Halle de la Villette, in the park with the same name, will be the place to be for fans of the French National Team, where we will be celebrating the French athletes. There will also be giant screens and other demonstrations.
